Big Blue at Chillswim

Big Blue at Chillswim

On February 2nd The Big Blue were pleased to be part of the first Chillswim event at Windermere, U.K. With our attractive blue stand adorned with the Greek flag (and Mihalis, Lisa and Chris) we offered the swimmers free Baklava to warm up after their brave swims.

A lot (lot lot) colder than the Ionian, the swimmers (261 of them) swam in the 4 degree water of Lake Windermere in the English Lake District. Swimmers came from as far as Russia to compete. Director of Chillswim Colin Hill has an impressive array of experience in open water swimming including being the technical operations manager at the London 2012 Olympics for the Open Water 10k alongside being an English Channel Solo swimmer 2010, 2012 World Age Group Champion for Cold Water Swimming and in 2012 was voted Open Water Ambassador of the Year by H2Open Magazine.

We chatted to many enthusiastic cold water swimmers who were looking to warm up during the summer months and we were also interviewed on the local Lakeland radio.

Swimmers could enter a range of races from a penguin dip to 60M sprints and the 450M endurance event. A few polar bears also swam an ice mile. The Big Blue’s friend Ram Barkai being the first to finish his ice mile.

Big Blue were so impressed we have entered a team of our guides for the 2014 event already. (Mihalis said he would hold the towels from the side). Next years event is to be held on February 1st 2014, get sitting in those ice baths! “www.chillswim.com”:http://chillswim.com/
